Why Our Decks Are Better....

Our Decks are Designed Better

We incorporate the latest research in deck safety and code compliance into our designs. This insures your deck is safe and keeps you in compliance with the latest regulations.

We use the Best Materials

From traditional cedar decking to advanced composites, we can incorporate a wide array of materials into your deck design. By using products from industry leaders such as Trex and TimberTech you can be assured that we have the know how and products you want to create your special deck.

We get the permits

All municipalities in New Jersey require building and zoning permits to construct a deck. We obtain these on your behalf, freeing you of permitting hassles.

Our Decks Meet the Building Code

It's important that your deck design meets all the appropriate building codes. Our decks are designed to comply with the current NJ Uniform Construction Code, The International Residential Code, The International Building Code and the American Wood Products Prescriptive Residential Deck Design Guide.

Our Decks are Stronger

We use 6”x6” Pressure Treated Posts on concrete footings for a solid foundation. The posts are connected to the footings using Simpson Strong-Tie Z-max Post Connectors for added strength, corrosion resistance and to prevent uplift.

Our Decks are attached to your house with Ledger Loc ledger board fasteners. These proprietary fasteners have a three step coating process that protects against corrosion, even in pressure treated wood and are ACQ approved. Ledger Loc fasteners also provide a superior shear strength to typical ½" lag screws.

We use joist hangers and other metal connectors from Simpson Strong-Tie for superior strength. By utilizing Z-max corrosion resistance, these hot dipped galvanized metal connectors protect the connectors from the corrosive chemicals in pressure treated lumber.

All of our railing systems are supported by 4x4 posts which are bolted to the deck structure. This connection detail complies with the latest 200 pound lateral force requirements of the IRC.

Deck Safety and the Environment

Treating lumber with preservatives has been a long standing practice to protect wood exposed to the elements. These preservatives have changed over the years and Beginning in 2004, the EPA no longer allows the use of chromated copper arsenate (CCA) for residential uses. CCA is a chemical wood preservative containing chromium, copper and arsenic. Several alternatives to CCA are available and we generally use ACQ, which is a water-based wood preservative that prevents decay from fungi and insects.
